Taking Our Herbal T - the zine!

Non-binary dears, trans boys, gender curious plant nerds - come explore the potential of herbs for gender embodiment, liberation and euphoria!

This zine is the collective sharing of the first cohort of Taking Our Herbal T. About 40 people signed up to take herbs to increase testosterone and see what happens. This zine is an offering to our communities, an invitation to imagine, dream and explore the expansiveness of gender and relationship to plants.

In this zine you will find profiles on the five plants we mainly worked with, and art & writings by participants about what it was like to take these plants together. This is not yet the synthesis of the data we collected - coming later in 2026 will be a peer-reviewed paper analyzing the data we collected and sharing more concrete proposals for the clinical relevance of our collective experiences.

This zine will not outline a “replacement” for pharma T.

The plants offer more than just “herbal testosterone”. They have diverse constituents that communicate with our nervous systems, stress response system, gonads, microbiome, immune system, and more. The plants are complex beings with hundreds to thousands of interacting chemicals, with synergy and life force. When we take these plants, it’s to nourish our whole beings.

This zine is for people who inhabit the in between, who feel the deep wound of disconnection from ourselves and the earth, who believe (or want to believe) that we can find our way back to embodiment & connection with ourselves and the land.
